Praying with Understanding

Prayer, I believe is a conversation between us and God, either we are giving thanks, making requests or even asking questions. Yet it is not uncommon to feel like a prayer could be such a complicated and maybe even a delicate conversation to have, after all, it's God we are talking to here. There is no way that wouldn't be somehow daunting! I remember learning to pray as a child during family devotions and how nervous I'd get, mumbling through my words, hardly able to get anything coherent out. My auntie, bless her, would jump in the middle of one of my many long pauses to rescue me and carry on with the prayer but once we were done, my uncle would almost chide her for not giving me a chance to learn and develop my confidence. I didn't blame her; I found those long pauses very uncomfortable too! So, I usually understand when people tell me they do not know how to pray and would prefer others to pray for them or they'll just avoid it altogether and some even ask if ...

A Disciplined Mind

So, I finally got to it. I don’t know if I should thank my furloughed situation, though my procrastination was still in high gear for a few days or maybe this is just the time when this was meant to be. I am a firm believer in everything following God’s appointed time.

There are a lot of people that inspire me and it will be a honour to share their stories on my blog, from my own perspective of course, looking at how it has influenced me and the lessons I would want my kids to pick from it.

I have enjoyed over the past years telling my kids stories upon stories about my Mom, the most amazing woman to walk this earth. Hearing them laugh and seeing the incredulous looks on their faces brought me so much joy and I realized how hilarious most of those stories were, (I promise you if I decide to share any, you will doubt the realness of some!). Well, they told me I am a good storyteller, so I am blaming this blog on them! Honestly, I can’t say I have any writing skills, I don’t. As a matter of fact, maybe this blog will teach me that I don’t, but hey! I am willing to try it out.

With the new normal we are all grappling with at the moment, COVID -19, it is quite understandable to entertain the anxiety of not being able to actualize things you have had on your radar for a while, that feeling definitely birthed this beauty which brings me some joy during these times. I encourage anyone reading this to open their hearts and genuinely think of that thing they have been holding out on. I have still got...learning to play the piano, driving: which has obviously been pushed to the end of the list. Fear holds us back from fulfilling our dreams, it holds us back from believing, having the faith that is strong enough to actualize dreams. One of the keys to living a victorious life I discovered in the Bible is found in 2Timothy Chapter 1 verse 7 where it tells us that God has not given us the spirit of fear/timidity/cowardice but of power, of love and of a sound mind.

A sound mind is a disciplined mind, people often liken discipline to punishment, restriction, deprivation etc which makes the idea something quite negative. A disciplined mind helps us to live a meaningful and successful life. A desire for some thing may get us started but it takes discipline to get us to the finish line. I would like to think I have that kind of mind but I think for most of us, it is a work in progress.
