Praying with Understanding

Prayer, I believe is a conversation between us and God, either we are giving thanks, making requests or even asking questions. Yet it is not uncommon to feel like a prayer could be such a complicated and maybe even a delicate conversation to have, after all, it's God we are talking to here. There is no way that wouldn't be somehow daunting! I remember learning to pray as a child during family devotions and how nervous I'd get, mumbling through my words, hardly able to get anything coherent out. My auntie, bless her, would jump in the middle of one of my many long pauses to rescue me and carry on with the prayer but once we were done, my uncle would almost chide her for not giving me a chance to learn and develop my confidence. I didn't blame her; I found those long pauses very uncomfortable too! So, I usually understand when people tell me they do not know how to pray and would prefer others to pray for them or they'll just avoid it altogether and some even ask if ...

Head above Water

There is always something we seem to struggle with at some point in our lives, something that is not going as smoothly as we want. It could be anything, I mean education, work, finance, health, family, relationship, life etc.

Jesus Himself did not have it easy while He was here on earth, did He?

It’s always one thing or the other but always remember, you are not alone. God is always a present help in our times of trouble.
At times, when you feel the weight of it all crushing you, it’s because you are trying to go it alone, there is only so much we can do on our own.

Try and cast some on to God, and I mean the worry about how to bear that burden because if you want to be honest, most of that burden is actually the worry you have added on top of it. Release that worry and let God uphold and sustain you. (Reference: Psalm 55 vs 22)
If you have ever experienced any kind of struggle, you’d know what I’m talking about: sleepless nights, loss of appetite, fear, distrust of everyone and everything and refusal to accept help in some cases.

When you need help, you need to ask. God will show up when we invite Him to intervene, the equation will change with Him in it.

Newton’s third law of motion states ‘For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction’. This is not only applicable to physics but to everything in life, every miracle recorded in the bible needed an action to bring about a reaction.
This could be the reversal of an affliction such as the one involving the woman who touched the hem of Jesus’s garment. (Reference: Matthew 9 vs 20-22)
It could also be the provision of a need to ensure survival such as the story of the widow of Zarephath, who had only a meal left to prepare for herself and her son and then face starvation but she acted differently, she gave the meal to Elijah, a man of God who was hungry and had asked her for food. (Reference: 1Kings 17 vs 10-16)

In both examples above, there was an action required to bring about an opposite reaction to the problem they were facing, it was also equal because it reversed the problem permanently.

Don’t allow excessive worrying replace your ability to problem solve.

When God said cast your worry on me, He did not say "close your eyes and wish the problem away"
He has empowered us with the intelligence and wisdom of seeking reasonable solutions and His help through prayer. When we worry, we become blind and deaf to the possible solutions around, it’s like being sucked into a dark hole where you see and hear nothing.

All you have to do is look around you and see the wonder that surrounds you.

There are technological and scientific breakthroughs every single day and these are achieved by people like you and I. It only tells me we are capable of anything and that there are unending possibilities all around us and this only encourages me to keep going and never give up.
We can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens us. Where our strength ends is where His begins.

Take all things to God in prayer and study God’s word to stay strong.

With faith God will show you how to move but you must be willing to move, you must do your part.
A Horse can be forced to the river but forcing it to take a drink is another matter!
You have to be willing to push worry aside and get the clarity you need to move forward. The mind is a battlefield and it is always under attack but with right thinking, we can win.

We need the humility to know when to turn to God through prayer and He will not turn His back on anyone who comes to Him.
Even as individuals, if we do not ask others for help when we need it, we will keep struggling and failing but once we speak out and ask, help will come.

You can keep your head above water by remembering who you are and believing God for wisdom to guide you, but you need to also ask in faith.
Don't sink under water, rise and allow God to take your hand and lead you.
God’s love never fails, and it never gives up.

Love you all.
