Praying with Understanding

Prayer, I believe is a conversation between us and God, either we are giving thanks, making requests or even asking questions. Yet it is not uncommon to feel like a prayer could be such a complicated and maybe even a delicate conversation to have, after all, it's God we are talking to here. There is no way that wouldn't be somehow daunting! I remember learning to pray as a child during family devotions and how nervous I'd get, mumbling through my words, hardly able to get anything coherent out. My auntie, bless her, would jump in the middle of one of my many long pauses to rescue me and carry on with the prayer but once we were done, my uncle would almost chide her for not giving me a chance to learn and develop my confidence. I didn't blame her; I found those long pauses very uncomfortable too! So, I usually understand when people tell me they do not know how to pray and would prefer others to pray for them or they'll just avoid it altogether and some even ask if

Invest in Education to Help Young Nigerians

Education has a great role to play in all this mayhem in Nigeria.

Is quality education being wielded as a weapon against the less privileged? This protest has unveiled a lot to the world or should I say it confirms nothing has changed with the education system except for a rise in private schools which majority of families in Nigeria simply can’t afford.

This generation is too 'woke' as they call it and are beginning to see through all the lies and deceit they are being fed. Public Schools in Nigeria is a mockery and I wonder if they think it’s every family that can afford to send their kids to private schools. Why must the less privileged always be left behind? They have been failed in healthcare and in education, two vital provisions of every responsible government to it's citizens. Don’t forget that if you do not train children as you should, they will train themselves as they see fit and God help you when that happens, it's Proverbs 22 vs 6 that says: Point your kids in the right direction— when they’re old they won’t be lost

A good education as a solid foundation should not only be for the privileged in Nigeria. Many public schools lack adequate learning resources to support and motivate learning. There is no support for families to encourage them to keep their kids in school rather than on the streets, you cannot even afford to provide pupils free school meals just to ensure they have at least one meal a day which would also be a good reason for their parents to send them there. It’s like there is a deliberate effort to raise street kids to serve as political thugs or for even more sinister purposes.

What options are open to those that can't get into higher education but can benefit from a government funded apprenticeship that will help them into work? There are many employers in different sectors that can benefit from schemes like this by gaining highly skilled apprentices and improved productivity. This will also give a lot of young people opportunities to gain skills that can help secure a well-paying job thereby getting them off the street and out of harm’s way. The apprenticeships I am referring to is not the one where they are given a local rusty pepper mill or sewing machine or butcher knives after some dodgy training. I mean Retail, Engineering, Graphics Design, Customer Service, Manufacturing, Warehousing, Administration and lots more.

Nigeria has the resource to do this in every state, yet they prefer to keep the money for themselves and faint on live television when they are asked to give account of billions of naira that seemingly vanished or they claim monkeys ran off with it, oh no, it must have been dinosaurs, sorry I meant dragons!

Invest in the future of Nigeria, rather than abandon them and then exploit them for selfish purposes especially during elections! They are children that should be given every opportunity to thrive regardless of their circumstances, not animals to be bred on the streets for thuggery.

My prayer is for God to have mercy on Nigeria, too many atrocities have been committed, 20-10-2020 certainly still too traumatic to think about, but we press forward.

Young people, especially Nigerian youths at this moment in time, your lives matter. You are not anyone's puppet to dangle anytime they want. Anyone who calls you to violence is oppressing you and sees you as subhuman, they obviously want nothing good for you. You deserve to live a life that is rich, purposeful and full of great accomplishments, one day you will be rewarded with great leaders with great visions, and you just might be one of those!

If anyone must bribe you to elect them and you accept, then you are mortgaging not just your future but that of generations to come. It’ll be buy one get others free BOGOF for them!

A lot of amazing people I’ve come to find out about during this difficult time in Nigeria and I’m still learning more about them, but I now pray for them constantly that their days will be long and their futures bright.

I pray for God to comfort all families hurting from the loss of loved ones.

Keep standing tall everyone and let no one bring you down.
