Praying with Understanding

Prayer, I believe is a conversation between us and God, either we are giving thanks, making requests or even asking questions. Yet it is not uncommon to feel like a prayer could be such a complicated and maybe even a delicate conversation to have, after all, it's God we are talking to here. There is no way that wouldn't be somehow daunting! I remember learning to pray as a child during family devotions and how nervous I'd get, mumbling through my words, hardly able to get anything coherent out. My auntie, bless her, would jump in the middle of one of my many long pauses to rescue me and carry on with the prayer but once we were done, my uncle would almost chide her for not giving me a chance to learn and develop my confidence. I didn't blame her; I found those long pauses very uncomfortable too! So, I usually understand when people tell me they do not know how to pray and would prefer others to pray for them or they'll just avoid it altogether and some even ask if ...

A Time for Everything

Autumn never was a season I would say I embraced, probably because of the mess I thought it made, with all the dead leaves falling to the ground and the additional job of having to tidy your garden!
My kids have always loved it, they love kicking their feet through the pile of leaves and grabbing a fistful of it and throwing it up in the air (with me holding my breath and praying they weren't grabbing dog poo with it!)
I have now come to see it differently, more appreciative of how nature and things around us respond to these changes in seasons.
I don't see dry and dead leaves again but beautiful autumn shades. I don't see a mess again but an autumn inspired beautifully decorated carpet.
It gives us time too, time to prepare for a harsher season, winter.

This got me thinking of how God has a strategy to all He does, there is absolutely no chaos to anything He does. That is why we can use our intelligence to unravel things and find solutions to several issues. Some might take time but there will always be that last thread to unravel to find the answer. There is so much importance around time: time of birth; time of death. Start of a journey and the end of it.
Time spent finding the best answer to a child's innocent question of how old God is or when God was born!
Time is a mystery to the foolish but an opportunity to the wise.
Time can be a curse but it also can be a blessing.

The bible starts with "In the beginning"...……In the beginning, in a formless and void wasteland called earth, at the appointed time, the Spirit of God hovering over the face of the earth gave the first command which was the creation of day:

“God saw that the light was good and He affirmed and sustained it; and God separated the light from darkness. And God called the light day and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.” Genesis 1: 3-5

The bible also talks about time, an appointed time for everything (seasons).
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot,  a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build,  a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,  a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away,  a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.” Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 NIV

There is indeed a time for everything but it's important to know that God is the owner of time.
That knowledge should give us peace. It should control the pace of us trying to maniacally do everything at the same time or trying to outrun others or control everything around us.
In this race called life, starts times are different and surely end times. How well we run the race is what matters, not who gets to the finish line first.
This brings me to the point of this piece - How well are you running the race set before you?
When it's all over, will you claim victory or will you wish for a second chance?
Time is a precious gift - Every time we wake up from a deep sleep, it’s another chance we have to fix our mistakes, love more and try our best to do things right. For me it's a clearer understanding of my purpose, which is to love God with all I've got and love everyone around me.
“Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.” 1 John 3:18 NIV
Yes, it's just as simple as that.
Time truly does not stand still; it moves nonstop. A popular Nigerian musician, Mike Okri once sang “Time Na Money” which means time is money and I agree wholeheartedly!
Sometimes it could appear to move slow or fast, but that has to do with a person's state of mind.
Just as the human body ages with time so will everything around us. The one thing that will not change is Jesus Christ, age to age, season to season, He remains the same.

He is the one constant in this ever changing world and I would love to invite you to find out more about Him and what He stands for through the reading of the bible especially from His birth in the New testament.

He stands for love, peace, acceptance, forgiveness and everything good.
When you look for Him diligently, He will reveal Himself to you and this is so important in a world filled with supposed men and women of God with different teachings, some which supports hate and otherism. There are still some good bible believing teachers out there, don’t get me wrong plus the additional ease of joining a church online for a service. It is important though that you read the bible to help with your understanding of God and use that as a bedrock of your faith.

If you are reading this, it means you are enjoying the blessings of time just simply by being alive, use your time wisely. Don't hold out on a relationship with Him, seek Him while you can.
There are too many 'Christians' spending their time trying to work out who they think the antichrist or their enemy is not knowing they are slowly becoming what they are looking for.
Don't get me wrong, feel passionate about your beliefs, I do about mine.
But threatening hurt or worse is exactly what you are not supposed to do, you are definitely not in accordance with God's teaching. Work out your salvation and make sure that you are not found lacking when Jesus returns.

A friend sent me a video on YouTube which at first glance seemed all innocent and was all about the word of God, but a few minutes into the video, the conversation between the two men of God took a different turn, I knew deep down in my spirit what it was and I scrolled down to the comments section to confirm, just the top ten comments on it was enough to turn my stomach. We need more love in the world, not hate!
“And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another. And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.  I say this because many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist. Watch out that you do not lose what we have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully.”
2 John 1:5-8 NIV

Need I say more? The bible verses above speak for themselves.
Remember you are loved more than you know by a God that has time in His hands and makes everything beautiful in His time. What better time to choose Him, if not right now?
Love you all.
